Podman is a drop-in replacement for Docker that addresses many of its issues. Where Docker has each instance running under a privileged daemon, Podman instead runs every instance as an unprivileged process, mitigating both security concerns and stability issues. Should the Docker daemon crash, all its container instances go down with it. Podman instances are unaffected as there is no Podman daemon to crash.
Together with its container building tool Buildah, Podman has proven to be a complete replacement for Docker. It has found its way onto every major Linux distribution, meaning its likely to replace Docker entirely. Find out more.
